Design of References and Bibliographic Lists

The rules for the design of intra-text, subscript and out-of-text bibliographic references are carried out in accordance with GOST R 7.0.5-2008.

Design of references and bibliographic lists

  • The reference in the text to the work from the bibliographic list is made after the quotation or mention by indicating the number of the source in the bibliographic list, according to the model: with the indication of the page [1, p. 45], without the indication of the page [8]. If there are several sources, then the numbers are separated by a semicolon [23; 5; 12].
  • Only scientific publications (including encyclopedic ones) are placed in the bibliographic list. Links to media materials, websites (except online scientific publications), regulatory legal acts, fiction, etc. are placed in page-by-page footnotes.
  • In the bibliographic list, the names are arranged in alphabetical order, first in Russian, then in English, then in other languages. The numbering is assigned only after checking that the work number corresponds to the reference to it in the text.
  • For sources that have a DOI, it must be specified at the end of the bibliographic record.
  • For online publications that have a DOI, it is not necessary to specify the network address (URL) and the access date.
  • For electronic sources, you must specify the author, the title of the article, the name of the site (or section of the site), the URL address and the date of the request.

Design References

  • References is a repetition of the bibliographic list, but designed in a different way, in accordance with the samples given below.
  • If the bibliographic list consists only of English-language publications, a separate list of References is not required.
  • References for Russian-language publications contain published English-language versions of the title (most Russian scientific publications have such since 2010).
  • If there is no original English version of the title, the translation is done by the author himself. Only in this case, the original name, transliterated in Latin, should also be given in References (it is recommended to use an online application translit.ru).
  • After the bibliographic description, the language of the publication is indicated in parentheses (In Russ.).
  • The translation is given in square brackets immediately after transliteration.
  • Similar rules are used for publications in languages that do not use Latin graphics.
